Small Business Spotlight: Celebrating Trafiq Café’s 10th Anniversary

Published on

This is a story I wrote for Coast Capital's employee intranet.

They say there's nothing better than a friend, unless it's a friend with chocolate. Small Business Member, Trafiq Café and Bakery, not only has chocolate - they have silky chocolate layered cake, gooey cinnamon buns, fluffy walnut coffee cake and lemon bars that taste like sunshine. They might just be our new best friends!

This June marks Trafiq's 10 year anniversary and there's so much to celebrate. For the past decade, owner Sergio Salamonovitz and his partner Shauna have been serving breakfast, lunch, pastries and cakes galore from their cozy Main Street location.

To this day, Sergio creates each recipe himself with all his delicious treats made in-house. From his delicate layered cake creations, to homemade breads, spreads and sauces everything that leaves the Trafiq kitchen is made from scratch with love.

As neighboring restaurants closed their doors due to tightening restrictions, Sergio and Shauna adapted and persevered through an exceptionally challenging 18 months. Although they had to downsize from 24 to 14 employees, they continued to nourish their community with all safety protocols in place.

As part of their adaptation, Trafiq recently opened a new online store where they currently sell delicious cakes, tarts, pastries, cookies and other delicious morsels. In fact, Daily Hive even named Trafiq as one of the best places to get cake by the slice in Vancouver offering this glowing review:

"Trafiq's top-notch reputation began with their delicious cakes. Their specialty is in expertly layered cakes — beginning with a perfectly baked base, and then adding delicate layers on top. All of the cake creations come layered with flavours like creamy mousses, swirls of fruit curds, silky chocolate ganaches, whipped cream, and more."Daily Hive

Um, YUM!

Bake with Sergio

To celebrate this incredible 10-year milestone, Sergio has kindly shared one of his most loved recipes exclusively with Coast Capital – a Walnut Coffee Cake that has been a staple at Trafiq Café and Bakery since they first opened their doors.

If you make it, be sure to share your reviews and photos in the comments below.
